In June 2006, Ed Cwieka was looking for a new challenge. Just 13 years earlier and armed with a M.S. Degree from FIU, he founded Summit Health Care and Summit Staffing. Ed started both companies by drawing from personal credit cards for start up capital. Within 2-3 years,  he developed them each into multi-unit, multi-million dollar operations. An admirer of educators and the education field in general, Ed sold both of his companies and began looking into the learning services field. 

Jeanee Thompson was teaching 3rd grade in the Miami-Dade County Public School system. She was well trained, with an M.Ed in reading and language arts from Grand Valley State University. In addition to her classroom positon, Jeanee worked part time at a local Sylvan Learning Center® as well as a Huntington Learning Center®. Both paid her $10/hr, far below what a teacher of her training and degree should make. She also noticed her collleagues were mostly college students and some with no formal teaching experience. More importantly, she did not get to meet with or talk to the parents of the students she tutored, nor did she see the gains the companies promised. A chance meeting brought Ed and Jeanee together. They discussed how they could take their past experiences and build a company that was different than what was currently serving the learning services market. It was the beginning of what soon would become the fastest growing tutoring company in the USA. 

Ed & Jeanee leased 1000 square feet of Class "B" office space and began Summit Learning Services in January, 2007. Starting out with 1 student, they quickly grew to 150 private paying students in 3 months. Soon, the name Summit Learning Services became synonymous with quality tutoring in the South Florida area. By placing strong emphasis on the background and training of the tutor as well as expert curriculum, Summit Learning Services started separating itself from the rest of the learning services industry.

In just over 3 years, Summit Learning Services is now franchising in multiple states and is on track to open 150+ units in the next 2-3 years. Their sales and net income figures have doubled and even tripled each and every year. Summit is now explorng other educational endeavors including charter and private schools as well as preschool/VPK and aftercare services.
